Richard Jackson was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. His father, George Colbert Jackson, was a well-known Gospel singer and so Richard grew up surrounded by such legendary Gospel acts as The Fairfield Four and The Dixie Hummingbirds all of whom were his Father’s friends. Being surrounded by musical talent his whole life helped shape Richard’s love for singing.

Richard Jackson first began to sing when he was dared to enter his High School talent show and he never looked back. Blessed with his father’s talent and invaluable guidance, Richard entered Central State University in Ohio as a Voice major where he received classical voice training under the direction of William Henry Coldwell. But it wasn’t classical music that spoke to him, he found himself mesmerised by Jazz and soon developed a great love for the genre. It became apparent that Richard was no ordinary talent. Professors were amazed at his unspoken ability, his humble nature and his work ethic and he was quickly respected and admired, by all who worked with him.

Richard Jackson began singing locally around the Cincinnati area, developing quite a name for himself. Being compared to vocal legends Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Barry White and Ronald Isley was enough to keep Richard singing and pursuing his dream. Richard has worked in the company of Chris Jasper Isley, Midnight Star, and has performed as the opening act for Bob James, Peabo Bryson, The Stylistics, Tuck and Patti, Regina Belle, De La Soul, George Clinton & Will Downing.

His debut CD “The Essential Richard Jackson” has allowed him to perform all over the world and brought him to Singapore in 2008. Since his arrival in Asia, he’s performed at Harry’s International Bar Boat Quay Singapore, the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok with the Jeremy Monteiro Trio and at the recently completed Park Hyatt in the Shanghai World Financial Centre with the Donald Jackson Trio.
He was also a featured artiste at the Singtel Singapore F1 Grand Prix Inaugural Night Race Sep 2008 and at the Les Nuits Du Jazz Festival in Nantes, France Oct 2008. He performed with Jeremy Monteiro, Jazz legends Ernie Watts (Sax) and Randy Brecker (Trumpet), as part of the Singapore Arts Festival May 2009 to rave reviews. And recently performed at the CHIJMES Jazz Festival Nov 2009.

This year, besides being part of the Clarke Quay Smooth Jazz festival, Richard’s voice has taken him to Bangkok and Dubai.

In his 23 year singing career, Richard Jackson has had the privilege to travel and perform all over the United States including Hawaii as well as more than 13 countries across the globe. But after all his travels, he’s chosen to base himself in his favourite country- Singapore.
